Where random teams help
Randomly assigned teams remove awkwardness and bias: nobody gets picked last, friend groups get
mixed, and stronger and weaker players spread out naturally over repeated shuffles. Teachers use
this for group work and lab partners, coaches for scrimmage sides, offices for icebreakers and
hackathon teams, and party hosts for game night. Because everything runs in your browser, your
class or team list stays on your device.
Frequently asked questions
How are teams assigned?
All names are shuffled with a fair Fisher–Yates shuffle, then dealt into teams in order — like dealing cards. Every arrangement is equally likely, so nobody can claim the draw was rigged.
What happens if the names don’t divide evenly?
Teams are kept as even as possible. With 10 names and 3 teams you get sizes 4, 3, and 3 — the extra people are spread across the first teams, never piled into one.
Is there a limit on names or teams?
No practical limit. The tool runs entirely in your browser, so it can shuffle hundreds of names instantly, and your list is never uploaded anywhere.
Can I re-shuffle if I don’t like the result?
Yes, just click the button again — every click is a completely new random draw.
